The magic you're asking about allows soldiers like Darkrun to wear their armor like a "skin." Once the armor is active, it sort of "replaces" the body, allowing them to move the armor as if it were their natural limbs and such. The limbs are protected by a bit of selective "reconstruction," though this is still problematic in that it will eventually make Darkrun dependent on the suit if he does not give his body time to heal. So I guess you could say that the suit also doubles as some sort of kick ass crutch for old age.
